How to download Facebook Reels

  1. 1

Find the video and tap Share

On a post, Reel or Watch video, tap Share. On a computer you can also click the video's timestamp and copy the URL from the address bar.

  2. 2

    Tap Copy link

Links such as facebook.com/reel/…, facebook.com/watch?v=… and fb.watch/… all work.

  3. 3

Paste and choose HD or SD

Paste the link above and press Download. HD is the best quality Facebook offers for that video, usually 720p or 1080p. SD is a smaller file.

If a link won't download

Only public videos can be fetched. Videos posted to private groups, shared “Friends only” or in Messenger chats need a login, so they won't work. If a link copied from the app fails, open the video in a browser and copy the address bar instead.

How to save Facebook Reels on any device

iPhone and iPad

Safari asks whether to download the file; tap Download. Open the Files app → Downloads, press and hold the video and choose Share → Save Video to put it in your camera roll. On iOS 16 or older, use Safari, not an in-app browser.

Android

Chrome saves the file to your Downloads folder and shows a notification when it's done. It appears in Google Photos or Gallery under the Downloads album within a few seconds.

Windows and Mac

The file goes to your Downloads folder. If the video opens in a new tab instead of downloading, right-click it and choose Save video as. MP4 plays in every modern player, including VLC, QuickTime and the Windows Photos app.

What's the difference between Facebook Reels and regular videos?

Facebook Reels are short vertical videos with music and effects, the same format as Instagram Reels and TikTok. They have their own links (facebook.com/reel/…), and they're shown in a full-screen player that doesn't offer a download button. Download Facebook Reels saves them as MP4 files at the best quality Facebook keeps, up to 1080 × 1920.

Many Reels on Facebook are cross-posted from Instagram. If you saw the Reel on Instagram, Download Instagram Reels gives you the same file from the Instagram link.

How do I copy a Facebook Reel link?

In the Facebook app, open the Reel, tap Share (the arrow) and choose Copy link. On the website, the address bar shows facebook.com/reel/ followed by a number when you open a Reel; copy that. Links shared to you in Messenger work too: press and hold the Reel in the chat and copy its link.

Do downloaded Facebook Reels keep their music?

Reels that use songs from Facebook's music library keep the song in the downloaded file. Facebook licenses that music for use on Facebook, not elsewhere, so a Reel with a popular song may get muted or blocked if you upload it to YouTube or another platform. If you only need the soundtrack for yourself, Download Facebook MP3 gives you the audio as an MP3.

Why won't a Facebook Reel download?

If a Reel link returns an error, check these first:

  • The Reel was posted to Friends only, or to a private group.
  • The creator deleted it, or Facebook removed it.
  • The link points to the Reels feed rather than one Reel. Open the Reel you want and copy its own link.
  • Facebook is asking for a login for that content, which happens with some age-restricted or sensitive Reels.

Reusing Reels fairly

Keeping a Reel to watch offline, or to show a friend who isn't on Facebook, is personal use. Re-uploading someone else's Reel to your own Page is not, and Facebook's systems match re-uploaded videos and can reduce a Page's reach for unoriginal content. Facebook's Share and Remix tools keep credit with the creator.
