Why do saved TikTok videos have a watermark?
When you tap Save video inside the TikTok app, TikTok re-encodes the clip and burns its logo and the creator's username into the picture. The logo also jumps between corners partway through, so it can't simply be cropped out. That branded file is made for sharing on other apps, and it always points back to TikTok.
The upload itself doesn't carry that logo. TikTok keeps an unbranded copy of each public video for playback in its own app and website, and that's the file our downloader asks for. Because nothing is blurred, cropped or painted over, you get the frame exactly as the creator posted it, at the same resolution and with the original sound.
This is also why the result looks sharper than a screen recording or a watermark-remover app. Those tools work on the branded copy, which has already been compressed once, and then compress it again when they cover the logo.
What quality are downloaded TikTok videos?
Most recent TikToks download in 1080p (1080 × 1920, vertical). TikTok stores several versions of every video and picks one for your connection when you watch; we list the best one it has. Older videos, and clips uploaded from screen recordings or other apps, are often 720p or 576p. No downloader can add detail that TikTok never stored.
TikTok increasingly serves video in the H.265 (HEVC) codec, which keeps file sizes small. iPhones, Macs, Android phones and current browsers play it without trouble. Some older Windows PCs show a black screen with sound. If that happens, install Microsoft's HEVC Video Extensions or open the file in VLC, which plays every TikTok format.
A typical 30-second TikTok in 1080p is about 4 to 8 MB. A three-minute video is usually 20 to 40 MB, so even long clips are quick to save on mobile data.
Can I download a TikTok when saving is turned off?
Yes, as long as the video is public. Creators can switch off downloads for their videos in TikTok's privacy settings. The Save video button then disappears from the share menu, but the video is still public and still has a normal link. Copying that link and pasting it here works the same as for any other video.
Please treat that setting as a signal of what the creator wants. Saving a clip to watch offline or to keep a recipe or tutorial is one thing. Re-uploading someone's work after they turned off downloads is something most creators will object to.
Which TikTok videos can't be downloaded?
We only see what a logged-out visitor sees, so a few kinds of TikTok content are out of reach:
- Videos from private accounts, and posts shared with friends only.
- Deleted videos, and videos removed for breaking TikTok's rules: the link stops working for everyone.
- Some age-restricted videos, which TikTok only shows to signed-in adults.
- TikTok LIVE streams while they're live. Once a creator saves a LIVE as a regular video, that video can be downloaded.
- Videos blocked in the country our servers are in. This is rare, but it does happen with some music and news content.
Can I download several TikToks at once?
There's no bulk mode: each video needs its own link. The quickest way through a list is to keep this page open in one tab and TikTok in another. Copy a link, paste it here, save the file and repeat. The box clears with one tap, and on most phones the whole loop takes about ten seconds per video.
If you want the sound of a video rather than the picture, use Download TikTok MP3 instead. For photo posts (the swipeable slideshows with music), use Download TikTok Slideshow, which saves every image at full size.
Using downloaded TikToks fairly
A downloaded video is still the creator's work. Keeping a copy for yourself, watching it offline or sending it to a friend is everyday personal use. Posting it on your own account, especially with the creator's name gone, can break TikTok's and other platforms' rules and the creator's copyright, and reposts without credit are a common reason accounts get flagged.
If you do share a clip, credit the creator by name and link to the original. For duets, stitches and reactions, TikTok's own tools keep that credit automatically and are usually the better choice.
