How are Instagram Reels stored?
A Reel is a vertical video up to three minutes long, stored by Instagram as an MP4 at up to 1080 × 1920. When you watch a Reel, Instagram streams it in small pieces and switches quality to suit your connection. When you download it here, you get one complete file at the best quality Instagram keeps, with the original audio.
Instagram's own Download button, when the creator allows it, adds an Instagram watermark with the creator's username, and some Reels can't be downloaded in the app at all. Our download is the clean file without that overlay.
Do downloaded Reels keep their music?
Reels that use a song from Instagram's music library keep that song in the downloaded file, so it plays exactly like it does in the app. In some countries, and for business accounts, Instagram limits which songs can be used. That affects what you hear in the app, and the download matches it.
To keep only the sound, for example a voice-over or a song snippet, use Download Instagram MP3 with the same link.
Can I download a Reel I found on Facebook?
Yes: paste the Facebook link into Download Facebook Reels. Many creators cross-post Reels to Facebook, and both pages give you the same kind of file. TikTok videos re-posted as Reels often still carry the TikTok watermark, because that's how they were uploaded. To get the clean version, find the original on TikTok and use Download TikTok Video.
Can I edit a downloaded Reel?
Downloaded Reels open in CapCut, InShot, iMovie, Premiere and every other editor. Common quick fixes don't need an app at all: Video Cutter trims a Reel to the part you want, Video to GIF turns a moment into a looping GIF, and Video Compressor makes the file small enough for email or WhatsApp. All three run in your browser.
Why won't an Instagram Reel download?
If you paste a Reel link and get an error, it's usually one of these:
- The account is private, or the Reel was shared only with Close Friends.
- The Reel has been deleted or archived by the creator.
- The link is to the Reels tab or a profile, not to one Reel. Open the Reel itself and use Share → Copy link.
- Instagram is temporarily limiting requests. Wait a minute and try again.
