Which Instagram videos can I download here?
Instagram has merged most of its video formats into Reels, but there are still a few kinds of video posts: Reels, older feed videos, videos inside carousel posts, and the long videos that used to be called IGTV. Download Instagram Video works with links to all of them. If the post has several items, you'll see each one in the results and can save the videos and photos you want.
For a Story, use Download Instagram Story instead, because Stories have their own links and expire after 24 hours. For just the sound, use Download Instagram MP3.
What quality are downloaded Instagram videos?
Up to 1080p. Instagram re-encodes everything uploaded to it and stores videos at a maximum width of 1080 pixels, so a vertical Reel is at most 1080 × 1920 and a square post 1080 × 1080. Many videos, especially older ones or uploads from slow connections, are only kept at 720p. We list the highest resolution Instagram has for the post.
Files are standard MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio, which play on every phone, computer and TV, and import into any editor. A one-minute 1080p video is usually 10 to 20 MB.
Public posts only
We download what Instagram shows to someone who isn't logged in. Posts from public accounts work. Posts from private accounts don't, even if you follow the account, because we never ask for your Instagram password. Any site that does ask for it is a risk to your account.
Some public posts also need a login: posts Instagram marks as sensitive, some age-restricted content, and posts limited to certain countries. If one of those fails, it's Instagram's restriction, not a problem with the link.
How do I save an Instagram video to my phone's gallery?
On iPhone, Safari saves downloads to the Files app. Open Files → Downloads, press and hold the video and choose Share → Save Video to move it into Photos. On Android, Chrome saves to the Downloads folder, and Google Photos and Samsung Gallery show it in the Downloads album straight away.
If you plan to post the video to WhatsApp Status or send it on Telegram and it's too large, run it through Video Compressor first. It shrinks the file in your browser without uploading it anywhere.
Respecting creators
Saving a video to watch later, study a technique or keep a memory is ordinary personal use. Re-posting someone else's video on your own account without permission is what gets accounts reported. Instagram's Remix and Share to Story features keep the creator credited, and they're the safer way to share publicly.
