About 95% of children end up within 8.5 cm of their mid-parental height.
How tall will my child be?
The mid-parental method is the most common way to predict a child's adult height. Average the parents' heights, then add 6.5 cm for a boy or subtract 6.5 cm for a girl. With a 178 cm father and 165 cm mother, a son is predicted at 178 cm (5 ft 10 in) and a daughter at 165 cm. About 95% of children end up within 8.5 cm of this. A rougher rule doubles a boy's height at age 2, or a girl's at 18 months. Nutrition, health and puberty timing all affect the final height.
