One height, several answers
There's no single ideal weight: a healthy weight is a range. The main result is the range that gives a BMI of 18.5 to 24.9 at your height, which is what most health services use. Below it are four classic formulas doctors developed for dosing medicines and estimating frame size: Devine (1974), Robinson (1983), Miller (1983) and Hamwi (1964). They give a single number based on height and sex, and differ by a few kilos. Muscle mass, frame and age all shift what's healthy for you.

Frequently asked questions
What is the ideal weight for a 5 ft 6 in woman?
The healthy BMI range is about 52–70 kg (115–154 lb). The Devine formula gives 59 kg (130 lb).
What is the Devine formula?
Men: 50 kg + 2.3 kg per inch over 5 feet. Women: 45.5 kg + 2.3 kg per inch over 5 feet. It was designed for drug dosing, not as a weight goal.
Why don't the formulas consider age or muscle?
They were built from population tables and only use height and sex. A muscular person can be healthy well above them.
