Dots, dashes and timing
Morse code represents each letter and number as a pattern of short signals (dots) and long ones (dashes), invented for the telegraph in the 1830s and still used by radio amateurs, pilots and sailors. Type text to encode it or paste dots and dashes to decode them; the tool detects which you've entered. Letters are separated by spaces and words by a slash. Press Play to hear it with standard timing: a dash lasts three dots, and the gap between words is seven.
