Password Generator

Generate strong, random passwords in your browser: choose the length and character types, avoid look-alike characters, and see the strength in bits. Free.

················

Very strong · 104 bits of entropy

Passwords are made in your browser with its cryptographic random generator and are never sent or stored. Use a password manager to keep them.

Passwords that can't be guessed

Each password is built with your browser's cryptographic random number generator and includes at least one character from every type you select. Strength is shown as entropy, the number of guesses an attacker would need expressed in bits: 75 bits or more is strong against offline cracking, and a 16-character password using all four character types reaches about 105 bits. Avoid look-alike characters if you'll ever need to read the password aloud or type it from paper. Passwords are never sent or saved, so store them in a password manager.

How to use it

  1. 1

    Choose the length

16 characters or more is a good default.

  2. 2

    Pick character types

Upper and lower case, numbers and symbols.

  3. 3

    Copy a password

Then save it in your password manager.

Frequently asked questions

How long should a password be?

At least 12 characters, ideally 16 or more. Length adds far more strength than complexity.

Is it safe to generate passwords online?

Here, yes: passwords are created in your browser and never sent over the network. You can even load the page and disconnect before generating.

What does entropy mean?

How unpredictable the password is. Each extra bit doubles the number of guesses needed; 80 bits means about 10²⁴ possibilities.

Should I use a different password for every site?

Yes. A password manager makes that easy and protects you when one site is breached.
