Brick Calculator
Calculate how many bricks you need for a wall from its size, the brick size and mortar joint, with waste and mortar bags. US and UK bricks. Free.
- Wall area
- 120 sq ft
- Bricks per sq ft
- 6.86
- Mortar (about 7 bags of 80 lb per 1,000 bricks)
- 7 bags
For a single-thickness (half-brick) wall. Double the count for a double wall.
Counting bricks for a wall
Each brick plus its share of mortar covers a fixed area. A US modular brick (7⅝ × 2¼ in) with ⅜-inch joints covers 8 × 2⅝ inches, so you need about 6.86 bricks per square foot. A 20 × 6 ft wall is 120 sq ft: 823 bricks, or 864 with 5% waste. UK and European bricks (215 × 65 mm with 10 mm joints) work out at about 59 per m². These counts are for a single-thickness wall; double them for a double wall.
