Based on one gallon covering about 350 sq ft (a liter about 10 m²). Check the can: textured walls take more.
How much paint to buy
Wall area = the room's perimeter × wall height, minus doors (about 20 sq ft each) and windows (about 15 sq ft). A 14 × 12 ft room with 8 ft walls, one door and two windows has 366 sq ft of wall. One gallon covers about 350 sq ft per coat, so two coats need about 2.1 gallons: buy 3 gallon cans, or 2 gallons and a quart. In metric, a liter covers about 10 m². Rough or porous surfaces and big color changes need more.
