Bulk materials like concrete, soil, mulch and gravel are sold by the cubic yard. Cubic yards = length × width × depth in feet ÷ 27. A 20 × 12 ft area 4 inches deep is 80 cubic feet, or 2.96 cubic yards. Mix units freely: each side has its own unit, including metric. Round up when you order and add 5–10% for waste, spillage and uneven ground.
