How much gravel to order
Measure the area's length and width and decide on a depth: 2–3 inches for paths, 4–6 inches for driveways. Volume = length × width × depth. A 20 × 10 ft area 3 inches deep needs 50 cubic feet, or 1.85 cubic yards. Gravel weighs about 1.4 tons per cubic yard, so that's about 2.6 tons. Pick the material to use its weight, add a price per ton for a cost estimate, and order 5–10% extra for compaction and uneven ground.
