Descriptive statistics for any data set

Paste or type your numbers, separated by commas, spaces or new lines, and see the key statistics at once. The mean is the average; the median is the middle value; the mode is the most common. Standard deviation measures how spread out the values are: use the sample version when your data is a sample from a larger group, and the population version when it's every value. For the example data the mean is 21.8 and the sample standard deviation 7.15.

Frequently asked questions

Sample or population standard deviation?

Sample (divides by n − 1) when your data is a sample of a bigger group; population (divides by n) when it's the whole group.

How are quartiles calculated?

By linear interpolation between ranks, the same method as Excel's QUARTILE.INC.

What if there's no mode?

If no value appears more than once, there's no mode. If several tie, all are shown.

Is my data stored?

No. The numbers stay in your browser.
