The leap year rule

A leap year has 366 days, with 29 February added to keep the calendar in step with the Earth's orbit, which takes about 365.2422 days. The Gregorian rule: a year is a leap year if it's divisible by 4, except century years, which must be divisible by 400. So 2024 and 2028 are leap years, 2026 isn't, 1900 wasn't and 2000 was. The next century year that isn't a leap year is 2100.
