How much should I tip?
In US restaurants, 15% for adequate service, 18–20% for good service. For delivery, 10–20%; for bartenders, about $1–2 a drink.
Should I tip on the total with tax?
Either is common. Tipping on the pre-tax amount is traditional; tipping on the total is simpler and slightly more generous.
How do I calculate 20% quickly?
Move the decimal point one place to the left for 10%, then double it. On $64, 10% is $6.40, so 20% is $12.80.
