How NSC interest builds up

The National Savings Certificate is a 5-year Post Office savings bond. Interest compounds yearly but is paid only at maturity. At 7.7%, ₹1 lakh grows to ₹1,44,903 after 5 years. Deposits qualify for Section 80C, and the interest for the first four years counts as reinvested, so it also qualifies for the deduction. The interest itself is taxable. There's no upper limit; the minimum is ₹1,000.
