Equity and borrowing power

Home equity is what your home is worth minus what you owe on it. Lenders let you borrow against part of it, usually up to 80–90% of the home's value across all loans. On a $450,000 home with $250,000 owed, you have $200,000 of equity, and at an 85% limit you could borrow up to $132,500. The calculator also estimates the monthly payment if you borrowed the full amount as a fixed-rate home equity loan.
