What a Roth IRA can grow to
You pay into a Roth IRA with after-tax money, and both the growth and qualified withdrawals are tax-free. A 30-year-old with $5,000 who adds the $7,500 limit each year at 7% could have about $1.13 million at 65. The calculator compares that with the same savings in a taxable account, where returns are taxed every year at your rate. The gap is the Roth's tax advantage: about $330,000 in this example at a 22% tax rate.

Frequently asked questions
What is the Roth IRA limit for 2026?
$7,500 a year, or $8,600 if you're 50 or older. High incomes reduce or remove the limit.
When can I withdraw tax-free?
Contributions can come out any time. Earnings are tax- and penalty-free after age 59½ once the account is at least 5 years old.
Roth or traditional IRA?
A Roth wins if your tax rate in retirement will be the same or higher than today; a traditional IRA wins if it will be lower.
