How regular saving adds up

Your savings grow from two things: the money you put in and the interest it earns, which itself earns interest over time. Starting with $10,000 and adding $200 a month at 4.5% compounded monthly gives about $45,900 after 10 years, of which $34,000 is your deposits and about $11,900 is interest. Raise the deposit, the rate or the time, and the interest part grows fastest. High-yield savings accounts and CDs pay more than standard savings accounts.

Frequently asked questions

How is savings interest calculated?

Each period, interest = balance × (yearly rate ÷ periods per year), then it's added to the balance. That's compounding.

What's a good savings rate?

Compare APYs. High-yield online accounts typically pay several times more than a standard bank savings account.

How do I reach a savings goal faster?

Saving more each month has the biggest effect in the first years; a higher rate matters more over long periods.

Is anything stored?

No. The calculation happens on your device.
