Return on investment

ROI measures the gain or loss on an investment as a percentage of what you put in: ROI = (amount returned − amount invested) ÷ amount invested × 100. Invest $10,000 and get back $14,500, and your ROI is 45%. ROI ignores time, so the calculator also gives the annualized ROI: 45% over 3 years is 13.19% a year. Use annualized figures to compare investments held for different lengths of time.
